Jazzy is a sweetheart, but since she's a rescue dog, she has some quirks. While she adores most people she meets, some people terrify her. She does not like Adam's dad, which is crazy because he's such a sweet man. We probably didn't help that situation when we asked him to come to our house and let her out when we were going to be home late one day. We he came in the house, she hid under our bed and wouldn't even come out for the pot roast Adam's dad found in the fridge and tried to lure her out with. Now when Adam's dad comes over, she hides behind whatever piece of furniture is handy. We can't figure out what it is about him that scares her so much. She likes other men just fine. He must just remind her of someone mean from her past.
She will also growl at some dogs. Again, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the dogs she decides to growls at. Some dogs she's fine with, others she hates. She hasn't bitten any dogs thankfully, but we would like to curb the growling habit.
So we wanted to enroll her in obedience school to learn some basic commands and to "socialize" her with other people and dogs. We've been to 5 classes so far and her last one is next week. We went with D.O.G Obedience Group in Blue Springs, MO, and have been very pleased. The trainers there very clearly know and care about dogs.
Jazzy has mastered some commands like SIT...
...DOWN...
...and COME. (Actually, we're still working on that one. )
Jazzy has enjoyed going to her classes so much that she asked to sign up for agility classes next. I told her we would sign her up as soon as she decided to come when we tell her to come. She was not pleased with my response.
